Customers are streaming in to the new Newmarket Leisure Centre today to make the most of the new facilities and earlier opening times to kick start their New Year’s resolutions.
The centre opened fully today after preview tours were held over the Christmas period and the charity SwimAlong – the centre’s first event – was held on Saturday.
The doors now open at 6am every week day and this morning 15 people were in for an early morning swim between 6am and 7am and five people had their induction for the new fitness studio equipment during this time. The first group exercise class, Total Body Blitz, was held at 7am.
Tony Bass, chief executive of Anglia Community Leisure which runs the centre, says: “People are obviously keen to get back into shape for the new year and the excellent new facilities make getting active even more enjoyable. I was down at the pool myself this morning for an early swim and then had breakfast in the new Montage café which opened at 7.30. By taking advantage of the earlier opening times it’s easier to build exercise into your everyday life and begin the day feeling virtuous! We hope that many more customers will be joining us for a 6 o’clock start over the coming weeks.”
